To truly understand your role in BDSM practices, it helps to familiarize yourself with key terms that define these practices. As a new player, understanding these can stop futureyou from using the wrong term when describing yourself, or more importantly, not being cross-posted in a group when you may be mismatched.
Here are the commonly used terms you should know:
Dom: The Dominant (支配者) is the person in charge of a session or relationship. His job is to meet the needs of the submissive (sub) based on the contract made beforehand. A Dom (词义:支配者) not only needs to be respectful and take responsibility, but should also be willing to put your well-being first and suggest boundaries to be set. A good Dom might not be powerful at all, but instead, shows responsibilities through actions, patience and care. One of the main qualities for a Dom is integrity — you can focus that on safe words, S/M play, aftercare, rules to be broken.
Sub: This stands for submissive (服从者). To put it simply, one active role in a BDSM scene. Ideal sub behavior includes following the given instructions without any questioning, being respectful to your Dom's authority, and willing to follow during aftercare or other guidance. At the most basic level, sub is about giving control to your dominant for a period of time, to facilitate growth, learning, or release.
S: This stands for Sadist which is a dominant/submissive switch in which one derives pleasure from inflicting physical or psychological pain. This is a common way to diversify play sessions and bring new energy to old routines. A S (Scorpio) controls the scene, sets the pace, and ensures that everything remains within agreed-upon boundaries.

M: Standing for Masochist, this is the person who receiveS pleasure from pain and control, but a Masochist doesn't enjoy being disrespected. M (Mercurys) treat others with respect and patience, whether they're in charge or under someone else's command.
DS: This is another name for dominance/submission pairs, two people who explore power dynamics in a consensual, safe manner.
SM: This umbrella term covers all types of practices in a BDSM lifestyle, from the thrill of control to the呲牙咧嘴 feeling, from bonding to trust. In a context, SM is used to describe sexual practices involving inflicting, intensified physical or psychological pain, discipline or authority, brought on by desire or power exchange. SM refers to a behavior or form rather than a fixed group.
PE: It is very common in the BDSM world to try to promote the idea of power exchange, which is mutual giving up of power and gaining of power in the face of vulnerability, with the goal of sexual gratification. Power exchange is typically defined by the use of safe words, a circuitous relationship defined by the parties rather than specific roles, and mutual interest in a more vulnerable situation.
OTK: This is a control position used in discipline during SM sessions. From a kneeling position, you support the bottom with one leg (knee), your other knee stabilize the person on the ground, and your hands are on the buttocks. As an experienced Omega, I can tell you that OTK is not something you can learn from a manual but requires quite a bit of practice learning how to safely move your weight and control your hands.
BD: Bondage is the practice of tying up or restraining someone against their will, which can be dangerous without the proper expertise. In the lexicon of BDSM, BD stands for Bondage/Discipline and refers to sessions in which the participants are temporarily restrained, usually by rope or blindfold.
FETISH: The term comes from the Latin word 'fetus', meaning desire or infatuation. This is a common misunderstanding because many people think a fetish is a desire for specific acts or sexual preferences, whereas the definition above suggests otherwise. In the BDSM community, a fetish usually refers to a preference for specific objects or body parts which can be tied into an S/M scene, but these are not necessary for S/M play.
SP: Spanking is the term for a short session of administering corporal punishment to another in order to improve discipline or simply for the purpose of pleasure. Sometimes in groups or one-on-one contexts, but typically on a spread-out surface with the receptor lying down or kneeling.
大圈: The X-rated scene or the discipline/sadomasochism scene. The big circle is for those who want to explore power in a variety of ways, including bondage, spfety, power exchange, dominant/submissive, and sometimes thinking outside the box. 小圈 is for those who want to explore a relationship based on mutual respect, trust, kindness, aftercare, and perhaps a little play on the side.
圣水: In the big BDSM scene, there are many terms that sound strange coming from someone new, but old-timers are quick to explain them. There is a common myth about 'holy water', derived from the idea of communion in a church service. During the scene, a dominator might spit-venery after an orgasm — which is also referred to as "
